after the recently concluded International Math Challenge VIII. The event was held in Thailand last March 8
to 12. A total of 800 students from 50 schools in 20 countries around the world signed-up and competed for
the right to claim number one. Canada, Egypt, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Turkey and Vietnam to name a few.
Amongst the great individuals who set an exemplary performance and received gold medals are Nguyen Tuan
Hung from grade 8, Nguyen Duc Anh grade 7, and Ho Ngyuen Minh Anh grade 5. Two students from grade 6
Lam and Thuong garnered silver medal apiece. Likewise, the grade 9 students, Chau and Alaska Holden
received the same award. On the other hand, eight students had settled for bronze, including Yang Dahyun
and Yang Dayoung, two Korean students of HIBS in Ho Chi Minh Campus.
Duc Anh exclaimed: “It was a great experience to have joined in such event”. “It gives me opportunity to
harness my skill in math”, he added. Alaska uttered: “I am looking forward to achieve gold next year and
represent Vietnam one more time”. Students are optimistic about doing their best next year.
On the sideline, there was a tour in Bangkok. Students were so delighted and fascinated when they visited
SAFARI World, shopping malls, and ride a cruise ship.
For this year, the aims of the event are to encourage students study math, acquire and develop critical-
thinking skill, and use this skill solve real-life problems.
