Teacher Orientation Program

14/08/2021

/Hanoi HIBS Hanoi staff have been busy preparing for the upcoming academic year since the start of August.

In the first week back, Hanoi campus collaborated with Ho Chi Minh staff for daily talks with guest speakers via online video calls. Guest speakers included a range of professional lecturers who we were honoured to meet considering they were based in different parts of the world ranging from America to Australia, Prague to Germany- it really displayed the importance of cultural differences at Horizon. The variety of speakers focused on creativity in class content, online teaching, the psychology of students and teaching practices, as well as hybrid learning. Hanoi campus then spent time adjusting to their new learning platform for teachers and students, AtlasNext. Teachers attended an online demonstration regarding the variety of tools that the impressive platform has to offer and how to use them efficiently.

This week, departments were busy with daily meetings and discussions regarding the upcoming year. Staff brainstormed ideas and inspiration for events throughout the academic year, including Learning Expo. Alongside this, departments shared tips and strategies for planning ahead and delivering effective classes both in-person and online. Teachers spent a lot of time organizing and planning their subjects for the year, referencing both Cambridge and DOET curriculums in long-term plans, as well as making tasks and assignments that will be engaging and beneficial for students. This involved extensive research, planning and check-ins with department heads.

Next week, staff will be preparing for classes the following week. This will involve uploading content to AtlasNext for parents and students. Teachers will carry out unit planning, organising necessary resources. We look forward to an enjoyable and productive academic year with staff, students and parents!
