In its commitment to work with parents in providing children the best education possible, Horizon International Bilingual School, Hanoi launched the first of a series of parent programmes this Saturday, 11 November. Mr. Vugar Babayev, Principal and concurrent Academic Director, welcomed parents and highlighted the importance of taking on an active role in the education of their children by themselves understanding the learning tools used in school.

The Seminar Hall was packed with parents who eagerly explored the features of MyON, the largest digital reading platform in the world which the school subscribes to. Mr. Christie Keenan facilitated the workshop where parents enjoyed a firsthand experience of navigating through the user-friendly interface provided by MyON and even reading through the colorful pages and listening to authentic English audio guides. He further provided tips on how parents can encourage good reading habits among their children and develop their English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Parents truly showed their enthusiasm as they stayed on for the second part of the programme --Teaching Children Responsible Use of Technology. Mr. Emin Yilmaz showed parents the websites and tools used as aids in classroom learning and discussed safety and monitoring procedures to help keep gadget use focused on educational purposes. He further recommended practices at home to promote disciplined use of gadgets for personal and family wellness and even had the parents, themselves, try out some practical technical steps on Windows-based applications.

An open forum followed each session, and the half-day program closed with a get-together over simple lunch.
