Science Week 2019 was full of breathtaking experiments, mind blowing demonstrations and fun   activities. All divisions participated actively. Some of the activities were the following:

Ineffective Straw…: Students were eager to drink the soda, but they had a hard time drinking it as a hole was made just above the level of the liquid. Some students figured out that the hole made it impossible for them to drink it. Others complained about the hole, but were clever enough to fold the straw right where the hole was so they were able to drink the soda. This activity showed how air pressure helps us in drinking using a straw and it also revealed problem solving capabilities of the students while facing that challenge.

Balancing Act…: The Main student asked his fellow students to balanced the 6, 10 and 11 nails. Most  of the challenged students gave up, others tried, but failed. While there were those who gave up easily, there were those who were persistent in finding the solution. Since the  balancing act was new to the kids, others were not hesitant to ask for the solution and then to try it on their own. This activity about the center of gravity revealed the students mindset while facing problems. It also exposed how patient our students are while solving a problem.

Water Xylophone…: This activity was about sound. It explained how different levels of water in a container could produced varying pitch. This activity was to show  the students that physics is also a part of music. Most of the students who were inclined to music were able to play simple songs in this set up and there were also the kids who adjusted the levels of the water inside the bottle to produce the desired pitch. They were able to apply their learning in music and use physics concepts to explain the working principle of the improvised xylophone.

The science week activities open  venue for us teachers to showed the students that science is not just a theory, but it is really an integral part of our everyday life. That even the simplest activity such as transferring water  could be explained by the subject that they find boring inside the classroom.
